Republican Newsflash: Fox News Sucks

August 14, 2007

I’m glad that some of our Republican friends are getting a small taste of the giant suckfest that passes for journalism at Fox News. It seems that Fox News has been censoring its coverage of the Iowa Straw Poll.

From Politics & Religion:

Here are the uncensored results from the Iowa Straw Poll:
1 Mitt Romney 4516 31.6%
2 Mike Huckabee 2587 18.1%
3 Sam Brownback 2192 15.3%
4 Tom Tancredo 1961 13.7%
5 Ron Paul 1305 9.1%
6 Tommy Thompson 1039 7.3%
7 Fred Thompson 203 1.4%
8 Rudy Giuliani 183 1.3%
9 Duncan Hunter 174 1.2%
10 John McCain 101 1.0%
11 John H. Cox 41 0.1%

And then here’s the results as reported on Fox News:

Yep, Congressman Tom Tancredo and Congressman Ron Paul are left out.  Coincidentally (or not?) both are in favor of disengagement in Iraq.

GOP Debate in Iowa

August 6, 2007

I’m a Democrat, so it’s perhaps not surprising that I was fairly appalled at the Republicans. I just wanted to hit on some of their stuff.

First, the so-called “Fair Tax.” I can shit in a bag and call it a Happy Meal; that don’t make it good to eat. Which is to say, the so-called “Fair Tax” is anything but fair. That’s my name for it – the “Shit-In-A-Bag Tax” ©. To make the poorest Americans pay 23% federal tax on everything they purchase is medieval; the Republicans should be ashamed for even proposing it. To a billionaire, paying 23% of a purchase is like tossing coins in a fountain – to a poor, working family, that would be absolutely crushing. Why is it so hard to understand that the people who have benefited the most from America deserve to bear a greater share of the burden?

The Republicans have already destroyed the federal budget by giving fat cats huge tax cuts – let’s keep them away from the tax code. They obviously can’t handle it. Also, how hypocritical is it for a bunch of rich white guys to stand on a stage in expensive suits and talk about how taxing the poor is “Fair.”

I really can’t stand Republicans.

I don’t think I need to get too deeply into their views on abortion. Watching them all scramble all over each other trying to pander to the Christian Right is disgusting. Especially since many of the abortions in this country are the direct result of Republican’s gutting of sex education in America. Isn’t the best solution for abortion to tell horny teenagers to wear a freakin’ condom? But none of the rich white Republicans have the balls to say that, because apparently someone decided that the Bible is against condoms.

I should say, though, Mayor Rudy Giuliani is pro-choice. He’s in the closet about it, but he’s pro-choice.

Their views on the war were surprisingly varied. Congressman Ron Paul is a borderline peacenik. I can respect that. Watching Sen. John McCain struggle under the burden of his convictions is kind of sad. The man was a war hero, for God’s sake.

At any rate, I obviously won’t be voting for any of them, but it was interesting to watch.
